ABOUT ME
I am a single mother of two young boys. I spent the first year and a half of single parenthood struggling to make it on an income substantially below the poverty level.  Then my gracious parents took us in, so we’re living in my parents’ spare bedroom and enjoying a temporary reprieve from poverty.

I am a Christian who believes that the Bible is the Word of God, and that it is relevant to every aspect of our lives, including our finances, and our attitudes towards money and possessions.  Hence the title of this blog “A Handful with Quietness,” which is a reference to the verse which reads “Better is an handful with quietness than both hands full with travail [struggle] and vexation of spirit.”  Ecclesiastes 4:6  I strive to apply this Biblical principle to my life by remembering to be content with my current position in life, and to remember that compared to most of this world’s population, I really have a lot to be thankful for.

I dream of someday doing the impossible—being a stay-at-home single mom, and homeschooling my boys, and still producing enough income to keep us afloat and even provide for us a home of our own.  Can I do it?  Follow my blog and, with time, we’ll see!

ABOUT THIS BLOG
It seems to me that most finance blogs are geared towards middle-class families with some disposable income to work with.  Little of the advice I find seems relevant to me in my current position.  I get frustrated when I read tips like “Just cut back on those trips to Starbucks and start saving for your retirement!” when I’ve never set foot in a Starbucks, even though I love coffee.  If you share my frustration, this is the place for you!  I don’t claim to be a financial expert, so this blog is a place to find sympathy and support, not the solution to all your financial problems.

Thanks for stopping in, and feel free to comment—I look forward to getting to know you!
